Think you’re ready to adopt?

It is a decision that could transform your life for the next twenty years. There is the initial adoption fee, of course, but you must also take into account all the following costs: food and grooming, veterinary bills, sitter/kennel fees and insurance. If you work full time, do not get a dog unless you can either afford a dog-walker or make time for the dog in your schedule. Dogs are intelligent pack animals, they need to interact with you.

All potential new homes will have an informal home-check to look at things like:

1. Your homes position - is it near to busy or fast roads.
2. Your garden and property’s security for a dog. Does the garden have a suitable height and sturdy fence.
3. Other animals at your home.
4. Other family members, if relevant.
5. Proof of identification.
6. Detailing follow up support you would receive from us. We are there 24/7 if needed for any of our adoptive Staffords.
7. Helping to answer any questions that you may have.
8. If the home-check is successful, you are invited to meet the dog(s).
9. If you choose to continue, the adoption agreement form is signed and the donation taken.
10. You become fully responsible for caring for the dog and agree to continue to do so. We will always take our own dogs back should an unexpected circumstance arise, no Stafford should be passed into third parties hand. Always to be returned to us.

Please note we also continue to reserve the right to visit the Stafford at mutually convenient times. If you are in rented accommodation, a letter of confirmation from the landlord regarding pets at the property will be required. If you are in local authority housing we will need to see a copy of the tenancy agreement. Please have these available for the home check.

11. A follow-up visit is done after an agreed time has passed. This can be repeated at any time.

Our adoption fee

Our adoption fee is between £50-£250 – depending on age, breed and the veterinary treatment needed. Our dogs are microchipped, vaccinated and neutered and undergo a basic health check at our vet’s. We will need to homecheck you before you adopt a dog from us.

Data sharing

The Stafford Trust will not exchange or sell your personal information to another organisation for its own marketing purposes.

However, there are some situations where we may have to share your personal information with other organisations. An example could be sharing your details to reunite you with a lost animal via a Local Authority Dog Warden, or to update microchipping databases. In some cases, we may have to share data about you when requested to do so by statutory agencies, such as the police.

In these situations, the relationship between The Stafford Trust and the third-party data processor will be governed by a contract and strict security requirements will be in place to protect your personal information.
